In Christopher Nolan’s latest film Matthew McConaughey gets the opportunity to save humanity by travelling Interstellar. Not too much is given up about the plot of the film in this trailer, which to me is a good thing. But, I am curious to know just how much screen time will be given to McConaughey’s interstellar journey versus time spent on character and plot development. Lest we forget about Contact, another space travel film starring McConaughey alongside Jodie Foster, that spent all of about 5-10 minutes in actual space. Needless to say, no matter the extra-planetary duration, I am highly intrigued by the sole premise that, “Mankind was born on earth. It was never meant to die here.” Interstellar premieres in theaters November 7, 2014. Check out the trailer below.

The dynamic duo who brought you Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz have a new doomsday film coming to a theater near you on August 23rd. “Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind’s only hope for survival.” (Source) I absolutely loved Shaun of the Dead – it’s on my top five for zombie movies – and Hot Fuzz wasn’t too shabby either. So I am definitely excited to see this film. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost just seem to have the perfect formula for writing and starring in action/comedy films so it’s always a pleasure to see them act together and give us something new. You can always count on four key elements in a Pegg-Frost film: laughs, booze, explosions and chases. And by that decree I have truly become a fan of their films. I can’t wait to see this movie as it blends three things I highly enjoy: beer, comedy and killer robots. Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think of The World’s End!

“Astronauts attempt to return to earth after debris crashes into their space shuttle, leaving them drifting alone in space.” [Source]

So it seems Europa Report won’t be the only space film on the silver screen this year. But, while Europa Report will take us on a thrill ride to another moon, Gravity seems like it will keep us trapped in space…literally. While I am interested in finding out how this story will end, I am uncertain if Gravity will be like the 2010 Ryan Reynold’s film Buried and keep us tethered to a single setting for the majority of the movie. Should this happen and the main characters end up dying in the end anyway I would be very disappointed. My guess is, the studio spent a great portion of their budget on pulling Sandra Bullock and George Clooney for the film to attract an audience. I think if this film were shot with lesser known actors the storyline would not hold strong enough to fill seats at the theaters. Let’s just hope the on-screen chemistry and dialogue between the two does well enough to keep this film entertaining or audiences might just drift away from the film faster than Sandra drifted from that space shuttle. Watch the trailer below to see what I mean and be sure to post a comment below to share your opinion. Do you think this will be a box office hit or does it have the makings of a blockbuster dud?

Although I have never read the Orson Scott Card short story or novel Ender’s Game, after seeing the preview for the film I am definitely curious. I have always been into Sci-Fi, Action movies and with an Academy Award nominated ensemble cast, I don’t really see how this movie could disappoint. If there’s one type of film plot I enjoy its those of the alien ass-kicking in space category. From the point of view of a person who hasn’t read the book, I actually feel like I have the upper-hand. I won’t have to complain about how a certain part of the film is drastically different from the book or be anxious to see a particular scene from the book play out in the film. All I know is, after viewing this movie trailer, I am definitely curious to see what November films will contend with this. But, don’t just take my word for it. Go ahead and check out the trailer below and as always let me know what you think of Ender’s Game by posting in the comment section.
