Reason number one for why you should see this installment of the Transformers series: Who wouldn’t want to see Optimus Prime riding a fire-breathing Dinobot as it rampages through war-torn city streets in an attempt to save humanity? Reason number two: Explosions! Reason number three: Mark Wahlberg. Reason number four: Because you want to see if Michael Bay takes the whole Transformers story-line any further from the cartoon and deeper into “WTF?!” territory. Reason number six: You just have to hear Optimus yell, “Audobots! Roll Out!” one more time. In Christopher Nolan’s latest film Matthew McConaughey gets the opportunity to save humanity by travelling Interstellar. Not too much is given up about the plot of the film in this trailer, which to me is a good thing. But, I am curious to know just how much screen time will be given to McConaughey’s interstellar journey versus time spent on character and plot development. Lest we forget about Contact, another space travel film starring McConaughey alongside Jodie Foster, that spent all of about 5-10 minutes in actual space. Needless to say, no matter the extra-planetary duration, I am highly intrigued by the sole premise that, “Mankind was born on earth. It was never meant to die here.” Interstellar premieres in theaters November 7, 2014. Check out the trailer below.

In the 2014 Sci-Fi action film Lucy, Scarlett Johansson stars as an average woman turned superior, ass-kicking phenomenon after unintentionally being gifted with the ability to use 100% of her brain capacity. Needless to say, “…interesting things begin to happen.” At first glance the film appears to be a combination of Colombiana (2011) and a bit of Push (2009) and Crank (2006) packaged into a premise that makes Limitless (2011) seem pretty…tame. Will Scarlett Johansson harness her some of her Black Widow (TheAvengers, 2012) energy for this physically demanding role or will her power performance prove to be less than believable? I have been curious about Marvel’s introduction of this misfit gang of characters since I first discovered they were doing a film adaptation of the comic in early 2013. Although I didn’t follow the Guardians of the Galaxy comic as a youth – actually I hadn’t even heard of them until last year – after researching the characters, I found this story to be very intriguing. After all, who ever heard of a gun-slinging raccoon with a walking, fighting tree for a friend? But, until yesterday I was a little on-the-fence about the outcome of the movie. Not knowing whether the strange and unconventional characters would translate well with Marvel’s primary audience had me questioning the film and its story’s overall acceptance by fans of its contemporaries like The Avengers and other Marvel heroes respectively. But, after viewing the trailer which delivers an equally strange and comedic tone as it does action and mystery and after taking into consideration its ensemble cast, I am actually excited to see this film.
With that said, I must forewarn you , I have become a little biased toward Marvel films these last few years. In my opinion most of their projects after the first Hulk film have been pretty good and the way they are linking the Marvel Universe on-screen is pure genius. As a lover of the 90’s Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons, I love to see those memorable and not-so-well known characters come alive on the big screen. So to me, this film is a pleasant surprise. Just when we thought we’d seen the last performance of the late Paul Walker, it gives me great pleasure to tell you we were wrong. The trailer for Walker’s final film ‘Brick Mansions’ has arrived and ladies and gentleman this is Paul Walker doing what we all loved him for. When you combine guns, cars, explosions and fast-paced chase sequences with Paul Walker, the RZA, and David Belle (the creator of parkour) you’ve got the perfect formula for a finely tuned action film. Well folks the creative genius (I use the term genius VERY loosely) behind Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus has teamed up with Cinefix to bring you an online three episode giant monster-comedy series that rockets the cheese factor to level Sharknado. Fear Force Five is a thing that only a really bored and probably not-so-sober mind could dream up. But, with its purposefully campy story-line, adolescent special effects and mediocre acting it’s pretty hard not to enjoy the numerous laughs and snickers Fear Force Five can force out of you. Stuffed with all the monster-comedy fixings to make a made for television SyFy film envy; Fear Force Five is something of an ode to all of the classic, yet not-so-well groomed horror movies of the past and I am borderline ashamed to write that I enjoyed it. But, when you expect a movie to be over-the-top, quirky and not really take itself seriously you ride that massive monster movie wave until you’re clear of the pipeline and laid up in the shade of the aftermath. With that said, if you enjoy laughing at “bootleg” horror-comedies you will highly enjoy this one.
